Kilkenny Castle

Kilkenny Castle is within eyesight of Butler Court, and originally built in the 12th century, more recently restored to it's 1830s splendour and set in extensive grounds.

The castle hosts the excellent Butler Gallery (modern art) and is open all year with guided tours of the Castle buildings. Guided walking tours of the city departing from it's gates.

Opposite the gates you will find the world-famous Kilkenny Design Centre, stocked with high quality irish-made goods and host to several local craftspeople. Good restaurant onsite too and situated in a beautiful building and courtyard - well worth a visit.
